The Yantra River meanders through a gorge in the city centre and picturesque houses cling to the cliffs. VT is a lively, university town with lots of very good cafes and restaurants. The Tsaravets Citadel, almost encircled by the river, is a popular attraction for tourists, with regular sound and light shows in the summer months.
VT is equidistant from the capital Sofia and the Black Sea resort of Varna. Daily flights go from Gatwick and Heathrow to Sofia and a bus will take you from Sofia to VT in 3 hours. Hotnitsa is only 15 minutes away from VT. It is also possible to fly to Varna or Bourgas, on charter flights from various regional airports throughout the summer months. Buses run many times daily from Varna to VT.
