We returned to Bulgaria at the beginning of this month but prevaricated a while by
spending a long weekend in Bucharest.  Eventually, we got down to work again - not least
because we were spurred on by the arrival of our daughter Cassie and her friend Holly.

We'd spent a lot of time scrutinising the designs and were dismayed to see how complex
they seemed.  Our building skills are minuscule and it looked as though we were going to
be in the role of watching various builders at work until the strawbale course.  We were
keen to be much more hands-on than this and so we simplified the plans and worked out
where and how we could be involved.  It was evident that we could dig and fill foundations,
so decided to give that a go ourselves.  At times, it was hard work but very satisfying to
know that the majority of the foundations were dug by our own fair hands - without JCB!  
We needed some help with the drainage trench but still managed to do the vast majority
ourselves.  Here are some photos to prove it:
