HOTNITSA
Living in rural Bulgaria
restored house at Hotnitsa

March 2009
Eventually, the snow moved off and we were able to venture outdoors without the aid of
snow shoes and sledges.  We fitted plasterboard and rock-wool insulation to the ceiling.
We're aware that these are something of a compromise but the difficulties of obtaining
sheep's wool or similar eventually defeated us.

As temperatures warmed up towards the end of the month, we started the final coat of
lime plaster.  This provided opportunities for Eileen to be creative, with a wonderful
sculpted tree (in cob, later covered in lime) on the front wall and some niches and other
designs elsewhere.
