We began preparing the site for our strawbale building by demolishing the previous
building, which was a derelict barn. On the original plans of our house, this barn was
labelled 'the other' and has been known by this name ever since. The building was not as
derelict as it seemed, since it took a lot of hard work to demolish it! Bird lovers may be
relieved to know that we left the birdhouse intact.
The snow soon melted and we made good progress, using Geno's tractor and trailer to
remove the heaviest stones.
By the end of the month, the 'other' was no more and we were levelling the site. Seth, our
American volunteer, on the left, me in the middle and Kalloyan (our Bulgarian neighbour)
partially concealed by a tree.
